University of Pennsylvania - Amy Gutmann Hall

Philadelphia
Pennsylvania

Amy Gutmann Hall, the new home of AI and data science at Penn Engineering, was the tallest mass timber building in Philadelphia at the time of its construction with its six storeys and 116,000 sq ft (10,000m2)— and one of the largest on the East Coast.

Designed by Lake|Flato with KSS, this academic building blends digital innovation with biophilic design and serious carbon reductions thanks to its mass timber structure. We have contributed to the timber design assist on a project that puts nature, people, and progress at the forefront — and adds another chapter to the city’s long legacy of transformation.
